Saints Row: The Third: The Full Package

Saints Row: The Third: The Full Package

Shooting a helicopter out of the sky as you try to airlift a safe from a bank is just one of the early scenes people will experience when they get their hands on Saints Row: The Third. The series has become the antithesis of other free roaming sandbox games, with developer Volition relishing in the idea that the player really just wants to 'play' in the world that it has created.

The game has players taking on the role of the leader of the 'Third Street Saints'. In the time since the previous game, the Saints have gone from being a street gang to being a household brand. While they might have their own line of trainers, however, their untroubled existance has not gone unnoticed. They've fallen under the eye of The Syndicate, an international criminal fraternity that's demanding tribute. The Saints aren't going to let this stand and they take the fight to The Syndicate.

This enables the player to do pretty much what they please within the fictional city of Steelport. There's everything from robbing a bank to flying a VTOL fighter jet that can pretty much blow anything up through to taking part in a gladiator-style TV show. Saints Row The Third really is about giving you the chance to have as much fun in its sandbox world as your squishy brain can comprehend. Whether you want to blow up a Mexican wrestling gang from space or fend off an elite military force with a sex toy, Saints Row has you covered.

With The Full Package, you get not only the core game, but also the three downloadable mission packs - Genkibowl VII, Gangstas In Space, and The Trouble With Clones - and some 30 bonus DLC items Witches & Wieners pack, Special Operations pack and Shark Attack pack. That's plenty of content to challenge the laws of common decency!

Hitman: Absolution

Hitman: Absolution

As of Hitman Absolution's launch, it's been over six years since we last saw Agent 47 in Hitman: Blood Money. Since then we've played through the adventures of two other notable Assassins, so how does the old guy stack up these days?

The end of Blood Money saw 47's handler, Diana Burnwood, effectively running the International Contract Agency (ICA) since she and 47 were the only employees remaining alive. At the start of Absolution, 47 is sent to assassinate Diana in a safe house where she has been hiding for some time. It seems that Diana has betrayed the ICA and stolen some valuable property, a little girl called Victoria.

So begins the latest set of Hitman missions, as before you'll have objectives to complete by killing certain targets, only this time you'll be acting more on your own, piecing together the story behind Diana's betrayal.

Agent 47 has obviously been training in his six years off since he's picked up a few new abilities. The major addition is Instinct Mode, which replaces the level maps from previous games with something more like Eagle Sense or Detective Vision. Enemies are located through walls, targets are flagged, items of interest are pointed out and the level or area exit is highlighted.

Another addition, your Instinct meter can be used to evade notice when wearing a disguise or to line up several head-shots at once to quickly take down a room of enemies. The abilities are limited by the level of Instinct in your meter, which is built up by completing objectives. This may seem like a departure from Hitman's more traditional stealth focus, but you don't have to use it. In fact, in the hardest play mode, Instinct is completely disabled.

47 is the subject of a police manhunt which can make things hard. The police are mostly confined to sections of the game leading up to or away from more traditional hit missions. These sections are there to spice up the game play and are broken into a few small areas in sequence that feel a lot like challenge rooms.

The AI has been vastly improved. It's no longer the case that accidentally showing a lone guard your fibre wire will alert the whole level to your presence. You can be detected by individuals and only if they radio in your location will you be known to others. However, your current disguise will be blown even if only one person spots you, other characters will become suspicious of you much more quickly.

With the ante upped in terms of both 47's abilities and the challenges he's facing, Hitman Absolution is looking lethal.

Tropico 4: Gold Edition

Tropico 4: Gold Edition

Those gamers familiar with the Tropico series will welcome the return of “El Presidente” in this the fourth iteration of the strategy/management title from Haemimont and Kalypso. With the Gold Edition, you get the added bonus of all the content released with the Modern Times add-on pack.

The gamer takes on the role of the despot (or 'benign dictator', depending on the way the game is played) as he struggles to keep power in a modern world with changed political players vying for global domination.

As leader of the country of Tropico the player must make key decisions over resources and political alliances in order to ensure the happiness – or at least the compliance – of the population. Of course, the fact that El Presidente’s own financial wellbeing can benefit comes heavily into the equation as well.

Features have been added to Tropico 4 including more more superpowers to negotiate with and even elections of ministers, but only those who will ensure that El Presidente’s policies get through.

New natural disasters have also been added to the mix to ensure that even if the populace is kept happy (or at least under the heel) mother nature can always shake up the mix. These six new interactive disasters include volcanoes, droughts and tornadoes.

All this is played out over 20 new missions that take place across 10 brand new new maps. The island nation of Tropico now has 20 new buildings including a stock exchange, a shopping mall, a new aqua park and even a mausoleum for El Presidente.

Facebook and Twitter integration have also been added to the game enabling gamers to post comments on Twitter directly from the game. Screenshots can also be posted to the gamer’s Tropico 4 Facebook page. There is also the Dictator Ranking on the online leaderboards to keep up with.

Modern Times brings the chance to drag Tropico into the 21st century with an additional 30 new buildings,10 new edicts and 12 new single-player scenarios.
